seegate replied: "oh dude you dont want to do any of that just let it do it on its own"

Is it bad for girls going through puberty to diet? And why? It's a science homework question and I just wanted to see if anyone knew.

Vix replied: "because your body is growing & developing & needs all it's vitamins & nutrients to do this, if you're dieting your body is liable to get run down."

devonian2001 replied: "It is not desirable because the body is changing and adapting itself at this time depriving it of food could upset the balance, and lead to conditions such as anorexia take care"

♥Paws for thawts♥ replied: "yes it is

jenny replied: "yes, get advice though first"

Ozgirl replied: "Depends what is meant by 'diet'. Young, growing people need plenty of protien, vitamins and minerals for healthy development and growth. In young women it is particularly important to have a good calcium intake, to lay down strong bone structure, thereby reducing the chances of osteoporosis in the future. Many slimming diets focus on reducing dairy products, which is not a smart idea, since a huge ammount of our calcium is found in these foods.

Reducing FAT and SALT intake and increasing exercise, however, is of huge benefit."

Could a bad diet stunt height growth during puberty? Do you think that someone who was severly malnutrioned lets say annorexic or something with not a lot of protein in their diet affect the growth of height during puberty? If so, can you make up and grow to your full potential if you start to eat right?

camcam replied: "see my answer for your penis question because it covers this as well. oh and no you cannot make it up. your stuck with your height. although saying that if you ate properly and didnt smoke you could gain a cm or two"

Jess replied: "yes most probably. you need protein especially because it helps build all kinds of things like amino acids which help the body. also as its during puberty it will definetely affect it if you havent had a growth spurt yet. your bones dont stop growing by ossification until you reach about 25 so dieting now may affect that growth and stunt it for further growth in the future."

Kitt replied: "A bad diet could definitely stunt growth during your younger years, but if you start eating a steady diet packed with calcium, protein, amino acids, and other necessary nutrients, it will keep your body fit and well fortified. It also allows your body to revitalize itself as it replaces broken down or ailing cells with healthy new cells. Treating your body well will also help prevent cases of weakened bones or even bone shrinkage when you become more mature.
There are also exercises you can do that center on activities like swimming as well as stretches that result in added height after puberty. Swimming has many benefits. Other than a considerable overall muscle and cardio workout it can shore up and stretch your spine all at the same time. There are also stretches that work on effecting the following 3 results:

Build up the back muscles providing superior spinal support to keep your back straight and tall. This can help with postural problems related to scoliosis and other conditions
Stretches that decompress the spine.
Stretches and exercises that rebuild and fortify the cartilage that is between the spinal vertebrae."

What's a healthy diet for someone hitting puberty? I've been eating so much... I can't control myself. And I'm acutally getting fat in the school year when over the summer I built muscle. What should I bring for lunch? Because the only healthy stuff that they have there are a pile of cabbages they call salad. Nothing complicated because I don't have time to get it ready in the mornings. Thanks~

Melissa R replied: "it's natural to eat more during puberty. this is th ime ofyour life when you do the most growing so your body needs extra fuel and nutrients/vitamins to help the growth process. your hormones are also out of whack. make sure to get lots of calcium to help your bones."

Ellen A replied: "really think about getting the downloads that me and my officemates are using....great for curbing the appetite...yet you feel full most of the time after you start to eat...company was written up in Healthcare Review...called independent achievement productions"

Puberty, Diet, Fitness questions for 17 year old..? 17 years old, 6 foot tall, weight is 75kg.
Puberty- Voice has deepened, grown taller, under arm hair, can ejaculate a little bit.
Still no penis growth, no leg hair, no facial hair, no muscle development.
Will this still come? I am 18 in four month and getting worried...

Fitness- I heard that if you have not hit puberty you will not see your muscles get bigger is this true?
I do weights at home and I have a bit of baby fat?

Diet- Will drinking, smoking and weed affect?
What should i eat?

What should I do?

Icy Gazpacho DW replied: "Go and see your doc... lay off the smoking completely ... and drink in moderation.

Your doctor might decide to provide hormone therapy.. or not.

As for weights.. just keep doing them. It takes time.. and testosterone... which is also responsible for penis growth and facial hair... as I said.. see your doc... he might do some blood tests to check that your test levels are normal. If they are normal, then likely you have some growing yet to do."

bluefootedboobiebird replied: "You could have low testosterone levels. This is part genetics and possibly partly because of your diet. Animal by products have hormones in them like estrogen....these products especially would be cow milk and beef. Low testosterone levels and higher than normal estrogen levels in men can lead to "man boobs" no facial hair or body hair and other issues. You should make a trip to your doctor and explain some if not all of the issues you are having and have them test your testosterone levels. I know there are hormone therapies, but your doctor will be able to tell you how to fix your problem. The sooner you go the better your problems will be. Good luck."

Djordje I replied: "Don't smoke, drink moderate,do not use weed. You just develop slower then others.Diets can change hormone balance equal to woman and man.Eat more and more vegetables, meat and similar.Testosterone does affect muscles but you must exercise to see better results. You are on good way, your weight is normal.Other staff will come soon and out of nowhere. You can change for only one month.I have change for 2 months, and i am now 18"

Is it true that some fat cells we develop in puberty on your body cannot be removed through diet and exercise? I have a really fat face with layers of fat underneath that bounces up n down when I run/jog, I used to be a fat kid always eating until I was full every meal. I now have a 5% bodyfat with the fat cells still on my face.

John replied: "You don't really get more or fewer fat cells as you gain or lose weight, the ones you have just get bigger or smaller. And it's not true that you can't lose weight you gain in puberty. You can."

bannersine replied: "Fat cells are never removed. They just get bigger or smaller. Your body stores or burns fat according to your genetics, so if your body happens to store it in your face first, that's a tough break. I have a hard time believing that youre at 5% and still have bouncing fat on your face though. Might want to check the accuracy of that body fat test."

Will puberty be delayed by a bad diet or a lack of exercise? How does a bad diet or lack of exercise delay puberty?

tech_enthusiast1 replied: "It wouldn't really "delay" the process, puberty develops depending on your genetics. but....eating right and exercise influence too.

during that early stage it is very important that you do have a good diet and you do exercise regularly so that your body can develop to its best potential."

Jonathan replied: "I can tell u have heard something about this subject, but havent gotten any real answers. puberty is not something that can be stopped. as we develop, our bodies start releasing hormones no matter what, its in our genes. What i think u are referring to is a condition called Amenorrhea. It occurs when a female stops having her menses (her period) because her body recognizes that she is too unhealthy to have a child. your body solely bases this off the amount of body fat you have in your body. if its too low, the body knows that you will not have enough energy to be able to nurture a growing baby inside. Amenorrhea happens to those who have only realllly bad diets such as those with Anorexia nervosa (when someone is basically starving themself of food), or can also happen to very healthy female athletes who work out so often they have a very low body fat %. lack of exercise, or fatty diets are not going to delay or cause u to have no menstruation.

if u werent talking about amnorrhea, then the answer is no, bad diet does not delay puberty, and neither does a lack of exercise. :)

hope this helps!"

maggie67 replied: "yes, yes...........................
Have you seen those videos from Africa or from some really poor countries?
God, your mind does not even work at the same level, that does not mean they're not inteligent, this mean your brain works harder to asimilate knowledge.
Lack of exercise is a factor for overweight people, health issues come after.........
The best formula is a lovely caring family, good nutrition and exercise for a good puberty.........What do you think?
And also enjoy it every minute, those wonderful years never come back, while you rash to become an adult and once you are one of them, really puberty is the best it can happen to you, it will give you time to undertand your body chances and also take challenges.............facts of life."

Is it okay to diet during puberty ? i weigh 220 i am 13 i want to get to 110,with the grapefruit diet, exercise and weight lifting,Is this okay?

Richard replied: "This does not sound very healthy but then being 220 does not either. You should be careful about your diet because you are at age where many things must come together. The exercise sounds good."

Bad to go on diet when ur in the middle of puberty? hey im in the middle of puberty im 15 and i havent had a the growth spurt that puberty brings. is it bad if i go on a diet and have like a diet of 800 cals per day???
if im on a diet will i still meet my full hieght potential

Jae D replied: "no i dont think its bad so do what yo got to do"

Spl1nter replied: "if you only eat 800 calories a day, you're not going to grow much. but it's about more than just calories. you should probably be eating between 1300-2000 calories (depending on your size), and make sure you stay away from foods that are high in fat and sugar. when i hit puberty, i grew 6 inches in one year and would eat close to 3000 calories a day and stayed thin (i attribute this to the fact that i was active in sports year-round)."

lilmayneal29 replied: "yes, it's a bad idea to go on a diet when you're going thru puberty. It's ok to watch your weight but don't over stress because of a few extra lbs.
I thought teenagers were supposed to eat a lot & then look like they don't gain a lb because they're always active?"

mikeymike623 replied: "yes it is bad, your body is still growing, you will fill out and if not that is when you diet"

bmac replied: "VERY BAD. You'd be starving yourself and you wouldn't lose any fat. You'd lose your muscle. You'd also become very sick. I bet you don't even need to lose weight. Here's a chart:

You should eat at least 1,200 calories a day and exercise. You'll lose weight IF you need to. If you don't, you should eat 1,500 calories a day.....and still exercise."

chieromancer replied: "800 isn't even enough calories to keep you alive if you were bed-ridden.

Find a calculator to determine how many calories you need get to your goal weight and be sure to nutritious foods and get plenty of calcium."

sillystring1010 replied: "Well Iron is needed to have a growth spurt. Many vitamin's are made just for teens. IF you are wanting to lose weight, you might want to consult with your medical professional. 800 cal. per day isn't all that much. You can order vitamins made just for teens from online stores, or you can go to your nearest health store. Ask them to reccomend something, they are good at that."

ansonholzer replied: "You will have growth spurts. I was having them even by age 22. Don't worry about it. If you are overweight and need to diet, remove saturated fats from your diet (look on the labels - aim for ZERO) and try to avoid meats, and (especially) refined sugars. Aim for 50% of your diet as vegetables (especially greens) and 20% whole fruits (not nec. juices). Also munch a lot on nuts and grains (together, 30%). Eat as much of those as you like, and take a 10-15 run every day or night, no matter how cold it is outside. Do 10 push-ups tonight - adding 5 every night beginning tomorrow. Rev up your body and it'll produce HGH - you'll sprout quickly, add muscle and grow taller. At this crucial time in your life, your diet and activity will determine your metabolism and height for the rest of your life. Stay active and stay away from junk food. If you eat really really healthy and exercise daily, you won't need to carefully count your calories. =) This all works well for me:"

hannel19 replied: "definately dont go on a diet with 800 calories. I depends what u are trying to do but if you are trying to gain muscle I would reccomend about 2000 calories. Most of them coming from protein based foods, ex egg whites, slim milk, lean poultry, tuna etc. If you are trying to lose weight I wouldnt reccomend it. If you havent reached a growth spurt wait for it and after it if your not happy, diet. Consult your doctor because an 800 calorie diet is not safe for anybody, especially a growing man. Be safe and don't restrict your body of its needs."
